This position is for a Master’s prepared advanced practice nurse (APN) who provides anesthetic care in collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons, physicians, and medical professionals at the University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopaedic Institute. The CRNA will administer anesthesia and anesthesia-related care in four general categories:
1) pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation,

The CRNA will perform the following principal responsibilities:

– Develop and implement an age-appropriate and culturally sensitive anesthetic plan, considering the principles of growth and development.
– Select and initiate the planned anesthetic technique, including general, regional, local anesthesia, and intravenous sedation.
– Administer anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary for the anesthetic.
– Use non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities and interpret hemodynamic and laboratory data.
– Manage the patient’s airway and pulmonary status during anesthesia.
– Oversee emergence and recovery from anesthesia, ensuring homeostasis and relief from pain or anesthesia side effects.
– Discharge patients from post-anesthesia care and provide post-anesthesia follow-up care.
– Initiate or modify pain relief therapy, including regional anesthetic techniques or labor epidural analgesia.
– Respond to emergency situations with airway management, fluid administration, and basic or advanced cardiac life support.
– Participate in the clinical and didactic education of trainees from multiple disciplines.

Job Qualifications

– Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and a Master’s degree from an accredited school of nurse anesthesia.
– Current licensure from the Maryland State Board of Nurse Examiners to practice nursing and nurse anesthesia.
